It is said that April showers bring May flowers. We all love this Kansas weather, don’t we? We always get more than just showers, but additional surprises of winter weather and summer weather both. Thankfully though, Kansas doesn’t completely dislike us, and gave permitting weather for the important dates. Sunny weather always seems to boost our optimism, which was perfect around test days, concert days, and plain Mondays. Many things about the month of April were great! The 2024 solar eclipse was an amazing sight to see (with the proper eyewear, of course).
The sounds of music, produced by the choir and band, could not have been pulled off so well if it had not been for the guidance of Mrs. Gilbert. There have also been many deeds of kindness behind the scenes. Several classes made the annual trip to the New Haven SDA food pantry, with some, like the juniors, not having the best of weather. The freshman class, a sophomore, and a senior also helped with the elementary wing’s week of prayer, despite the disadvantage of not having enough time for study halls and physical education class.
The seniors even chose a mission trip as their class trip! Self-defense classes, state testing, a Diversity assembly, indoor skydiving, and so much more happened during April, a month with great events, and a month of getting caught sleeping in class. For one with a short attention span, I can honestly say I’ve been tempted to doze once or twice during the past month!
But as the year is starting to close out, I have learned that it is always good to stay wide awake for any last-minute surprises. With less than a month left (not that anyone is counting), I’m sure there will be more stories from the high school wing that will be remembered for years to come. Who knows – so watch this space!
